Mike, Sharon & Aiden
Hello!
We realize what a difficult time this must be for you
and want to thank you sincerely for reading our
letter and getting to know us. We believe that what
you are doing is one of the most selfless acts of
love that any parent could do for his or her child.
We have the utmost respect and admiration for your
strength and courage and we feel honored to be
considered as parents for your baby.

Our beginnings…
Our names are Mike and Sharon and we are
excited to add a son or daughter to our family.
We have been married for almost seven years but
have known each other for over seventeen.  We
knew prior to our marriage that we would most
likely not be able to conceive a child. We
discussed what our plans would be if our infertility
was confirmed, and we whole-heartedly agreed
that adoption was the way we would want to
create our family.  In 2005 we adopted our son, Aiden, and we are now hoping to complete our family by adopting again.  We have always dreamed of having two children.

Why we want to adopt again…
Adopting Aiden was the most amazing experience of our lives.  We are so grateful to his birthparents for allowing us to become his parents.  We never thought the day would come when we would have a little one to fill our home with joy.  We are equally eager for our second child to arrive.  We truly believe that adoption is a remarkable journey that brings parents and birth parents together for the love of a child.

We had very happy and fun childhoods and we find ourselves re-living some of those memories through the eyes of Aiden. We know that he would make a wonderful big brother and would enjoy showing a little brother or sister the ropes.  He loves babies and other children.  While we realize that having a sibling will be an adjustment for him, we believe that both children will benefit from having a shared childhood.  When we look back on our own childhoods, we can’t imagine them without thinking about our own brothers and sisters.  We are overjoyed at the thought of being parents to another child and hope that the day we meet our new family member is just around the corner.

In addition to Aiden’s adoption, Sharon’s brother and his wife have adopted three girls from Poland.  They have been a part of our family since 2004.  Just as it was with Aiden’s adoption, they were truly meant to be a part of our family, and we love them unconditionally.

Mike…
Mike is an intelligent, kind, caring and energetic guy. He works for a computer networking firm as a Solutions Architect.  He loves his job and it enables him to work from home two or three days each week.  In addition to his work, Mike is a volunteer EMT for our town. One weekday each week, and every other weekend, he is on call in case anyone needs an ambulance in our town. Mike has always been interested in the medical field and finds the work very rewarding.

In his down time, Mike enjoys spending time with Aiden and Sharon.  He also enjoys skiing, bike riding, kayaking and walking when he gets the chance.

Sharon…
Sharon is loving, kind and intelligent. She is a full-time stay-at-home mom and truly enjoys it.  Prior to Aiden’s arrival, she worked for an area retailer as their Staff Accountant.  One of Sharon and Aiden’s favorite activities is a music class where a group of kids and moms get together and sing songs, play instruments and dance.  We also have plenty of play dates and go to a local gym once a week that offers a program including a bouncy house, story and craft time and swimming in a toddler splash pool.  Aiden loves it and can’t wait for “bouncy house” day to come each week.

Sharon’s favorite thing to do is spend time with Mike and Aiden.  She also likes to read, swim, walk and LOVES to cook!

Aiden…
Aiden is a bright and happy toddler.  He is very active and has an outgoing personality.  He adores people, especially little ones.  Each day he brings such fun into our lives.  Aiden’s favorite thing these days is construction!  Our house is filled with diggers, loaders, dump trucks and bucket trucks.   He spends a lot of time “building” and pretends he’s working on a construction site.  Whenever we see a real piece of construction equipment he yells “Wow!  Look at that big loader, digger etc.”  More amazing than even Aiden’s construction knowledge is that Sharon can now correctly identify nearly every piece of construction equipment that exists!

We love to tell about his antics; like the time he was learning his animal sounds and pointed to a woman in church with puffy white hair and yelled “BAA” at the top of his voice.  Or how he dislikes being left out of a joke and will laugh long and loud usually after everyone else has stopped!  He’s really affectionate and on one of our outings he was trying to hug his friend, Ella, pretty enthusiastically.  They both ended up rolling down a small hill laughing that they had tipped over together.

We know that Aiden was meant to be a part of our family.  We love and respect Aiden’s birthparents and continue to have contact with them via letters, pictures, e-mail and visits.  We would like to have the same type of relationship with our second child’s birth parents if everyone is comfortable with the idea.

Our home & community...
We live in a quiet town in Western Massachusetts in a neighborhood filled with children. Our home is a comfortable colonial with three bedrooms, two and one half baths and a large back yard with a playscape and sandbox.  We have a large deck off of the back of our house that overlooks the mountains. We share our home with our two cats, Murphy and Nort, who are both playful and wonderful with kids.

Our home is in an area that is well known for tourism and has many activities including local theater groups and ski areas to choose from.  In addition, our town and the surrounding towns really do a lot for families.  On any given day, you can pick up the newspaper and find a half dozen activities planned for kids.

Our neighborhood is close-knit and we know all of our neighbors and their children.  Our children will have no lack of kids to play with as nearly everyone has little ones.  The kids are playing and swimming all summer long and even set up the occasional lemonade stand.  In the winter there are plenty of spots for sledding.  The hill in our back yard has become a popular one too.

Our fun times…
Each year we plan a trip to the coast of Maine to relax and unwind. We have a spot that we really enjoy and we park our car for the week and walk wherever we need to go. It's a very family friendly spot with plenty of beaches, rides on trolley cars, and the opportunity to take boat tours.  When we first met and got to know one another, we were amazed to find that each of us, although we grew up in different states, both vacationed at this very spot as kids each year.  We have continued the tradition with Aiden who has a blast every time.

We occasionally travel a bit further. We've been to Florida and we honeymooned in Ireland, which was incredible.  In 2004, we set sail on a Mediterranean cruise where we visited Corsica, France, and Italy.  We plan to return to some of these spots and find some new ones as soon as our kids are a bit older.

Some of our favorite childhood memories are the simple things; playing hop scotch, building a snowman, jumping in the piles of raked leaves, swimming  until your fingers turn wrinkly and your mom tells you it’s time to get out of the water, catching fireflies and playing Monopoly, walks through the fields, camping and telling ghost stories, trimming the Christmas tree, skating until your feet hurt, trips to the library and sitting on the stoop on a hot summer night talking to your mom, listening to the sound of the crickets nearby, the ding-dong cart music, laying on your back and finding the shapes in the clouds.  These are the kinds of memories that we want our children to have when they grow up.

Our families…
Our families are equally excited for us to have another child.  Both Mike's mom and Sharon's mom are especially thrilled at the thought of having another grandchild to pamper.  We recently lost both Mike's dad to an unexpected illness and Sharon’s dad after a long illness.  We miss them both dearly.  They were so supportive and happy of us adopting again.  Both of our parents have had a long and happy marriage, and from them, we hope to instill and pass on these treasured marriage and family values to our children.

We also have aunts and uncles-to-be who can't wait for the new addition to our family. Sharon has two brothers, one sister, a sister-in-law, and three nieces; Mike has one sister. Since our nieces are adopted as well, our children will have cousins who were brought to our family through adoption.  Everyone is waiting for the day that they can meet our new family member.  We live close by to each of our families so our children will have the opportunity to know and be a part of our whole family.

Our families each celebrate the holidays and special events in a big way.  We are always having a birthday or family picnic.  Whether it’s Christmas time with presents and the whole family, or a picnic with watermelon and water balloons, we love to spend time together.  We can’t wait for our new son or daughter to be a part of our celebrations and join in the fun.

Our faith, values & parenting…
We were both raised in honest, loving families and we hope to instill the same values in our child. We plan to raise our children in the Catholic faith and hope that they will find the same comfort in their beliefs that we do.

We want to share with our children the process of growing up, from the first day of school, to bullies on the playground to first dates and proms.  We hope to teach them the importance of being honest and respecting others.  We believe in setting a good example and helping our children to make good decisions while encouraging them to be their own people.

We will always respect our children and encourage each child to explore his/her interests.  We will stress the importance of education, but believe that it is also important to be involved in extracurricular activities; whether it is sports, dance, theater, music, etc.  We believe that extracurricular activities help develop a child’s social skills and help them to learn about teamwork.

Open adoption…
We believe that it is important to speak to our children openly about their adoption.  We believe that the more we explain to our children and the more open we are in answering questions, the easier it will be for them to understand adoption as a loving but very difficult choice that their birthparents made for them.  We would always respect you and do the very best to convey your love and reasons for choosing adoption for your child.

We share an open adoption with Aiden’s birth family so we know first-hand how open adoption can truly benefit everyone involved. We welcome the opportunity to talk with you about your desires for an open adoption.  If you choose to have a closed adoption, we would respect your wishes and promise that your child will always know of your love and sacrifice.

Thank you!
Thank you for reading our letter and learning
a little bit about us as a family. We hope it
has given you a little bit of insight into who
we are. Whatever you should decide is right
for your baby, we truly wish you all of the
best with your hopes and dreams for him or
her. If you choose us as parents, your child
would always know that he or she is loved
both by his adoptive family and his birth
family.  We would encourage your baby to
always follow his or her dreams and would
love him or her unconditionally.
